Now's the time to buy a new TV, and this one is 21% off. (Amazon)
Still looking for some good Prime Day deals during day 2 of Amazon's big summer sale? If you haven’t found any good picks from the smattering of TV sales yet, this 65-inch mini-LED TCL model may be the ticket. It’s the latest model for this particular TV line and it’s at the lowest price we’ve seen yet, thanks to a 21% cut that brings it down to $548.
So what makes it special? Besides being a great size for most living rooms, the mini-LED backlight is relatively new TV tech that aims to approach the inky blacks of OLED TVs without sacrificing brightness. There are also some great gaming features here if you like to sit down on the couch for some console gaming. Not too shabby for a 65-incher under $550.
As is typical for major sales events, there are a ton of TVs to choose from. However, this TCL model packs a whole lot of solid tech into a relatively affordable package compared to its peers. Since this is the 2025 model, it's also the first time we've seen the price dip this low.
Whether you enjoy keeping up with the latest TV tech or just have a rapidly aging TV that needs to be put out to pasture, this is a great size set for most living rooms. With hundreds of local dimming zones from the mini-LED backlight, you're movies and TV shows should pop with more detail than a standard LED backlight. You'll also get dark blacks akin to an OLED TV without some of the latter's shortfalls.
HRD10+, Dolby Vision and HLG support are on board here, so you're ready for all of the latest HDR streaming content. Speaking of streaming, this TV is powered by Google TV, so you have access to a ton of apps right out of the box. With a 144Hz refresh rate, it's also ready for silky smooth gaming when hooked up to a console like the PS5 or Xbox Series X.
If gaming is your primary concern, you can also count on HDMI 2.1 ports and a low-latency mode to support quick-fire gameplay with support for the latest console features. For real tech nerds, there's also a built-in game bar that can show you performance stats in real time.
This model is rated well at 4.4 our of five stars from reviewers so far. Here's what they have to say.
"Amazing contrast, great black levels, nice backlit remote with responsive Google TV interface," said one five-star reviewer. "Dolby Vision content streaming from Disney + and Apple TV+ is just breathtaking on this set, even the sound is decent without a soundbar though not amazing."
Another five-star review praised the TV's gaming performance, saying: "I have always played on a 144hz monitor with a gaming setup. After work I don’t want to sit at a desk more than I need to so this tv is absolutely perfect for me. Also, if you plug in a HDMI 2.1 cable to this TV and a gaming pc it does 288hz at 1080p which was a great surprise, don’t notice any input lag at all!"
While mini-LED TVs can come close to OLED models in terms of picture quality, this TV isn't quite all the way there, according to one four-star reviewer. "If you're thinking that you'll save 1k on an OLED TV buy purchasing this instead, this is not the case," they said. "The OLED picture quality is better."
"The only con is the screen is highly reflective so you have to turn off the lights that are in front of the tv if they are in the reflection zone," said another reviewer. "Not the end of the world, if you make the screen less reflective you loose a little of the clarity."
