We tried Quince's $50 jeans — here's what they look like on 3 different women

Jeans are a wardrobe staple, but like everything else, they've gotten pretty pricey over the years. It's not unusual to come across a popular pair for around $100, and some designer styles will set you back more than $250. So when Quince announced it was releasing premium denim jeans for just $50, we immediately took notice.

First things first: If you're unfamiliar with Quince, it's time to get acquainted. It's a direct-to-consumer brand that gets its products from many of the same factories as the fancy designers you find in department stores. The difference? Because there's no brand name on the label, there's no markup, meaning Quince clothing, shoes, accessories and home goods are the same quality — just way cheaper.

Yahoo editors are already fans of Quince's $50 cashmere sweater, so testing out its new $50 jeans was a total no-brainer. There are five silhouettes in a handful of washes. Most of the jeans are available in two inseams and go up to a size 32 waist. (The folks at Quince have assured us more sizes are coming soon!)

As is usually the case with new items at Quince, the jeans sold out almost immediately when they launched in late August. The brand restocked a few weeks ago and — no surprise — many sizes sold out again. If your size is available but you're not sure you want to take a chance on a brand you've never tried before, keep reading to see what three shopping experts think of their Quince jeans.

It's hard for me to find jeans that I like. Because I had never tried anything from Quince before, I was wary about ordering them online without trying them on, but these quickly became my new favorite jeans (and I get so many compliments every time I wear them). I'm usually in between sizes with short legs, so I either end up returning jeans or getting them tailored. But these fit perfectly — even the shorter inseam hit right where it was advertised, at my ankles. I also love how they are stretchy without looking stretchy (a huge pet peeve of mine) and feel comfortable the entire day. My hips are much larger than my waist, so I'm used to dealing with the dreaded waist gap when it comes to jeans, but these hugged my curves perfectly. And the kick flare at the end is so cute and feminine.

A few things to note: First, the high-rise waist, just know that it's super high — so I would avoid them at all costs if you're not a fan of that style.

Second, the black is dark enough to feel elegant and not washed out. I’ve already worn them casually with a white tee and sneakers and have dressed them up with heeled boots and a sweater and blouse for date night, nights out, and just days when I want to look a little more put together. The only issue I really found was that the black collects a lot of lint, especially when paired with a light-colored sweater.

Lastly, these jeans didn't get saggy throughout the day in a super-noticeable way. They still stayed on and were comfortable. By day three, I felt it more, but it's not too much of an issue.

These are the comfiest jeans that have ever sat on my body. The sizing is absolutely perfect. They feel perfectly snug on my thighs and stomach, two areas that tend to feel tight in similarly sized jeans at other retailers. I opted for the shorter inseam and they look really great with flats and slip-on shoes without exposing too much ankle.

I've been wearing these jeans for only a few days, but they immediately felt broken in, like I'd been wearing them for weeks. There was no off-putting stiffness that typically comes with new jeans. The button also doesn't dig into my stomach, a small victory that feels like it should be standard across all pants, but sadly isn't. Honestly, they feel like the Athleta leggings I tend to wear throughout the day.

I opted for Quince jeans in black, so they look great whether paired with a button-down or tie-dye sweatshirt. I am such a huge fan of these jeans!

I tend to hover between 26- and 27-inch waists. These fit perfectly as a 27-inch-waisted jean. I'm 5'2", so I probably should have gone with the 26-inch length for a more on-trend look. That said, the 28-inch length is a perfect 28-inch cut.

These jeans keep their shape surprisingly well for the price. I tested them by wearing them off and on for two weeks, washing them twice in between, and then wearing them five days straight. They kept their shape through all rounds of testing — most crucially, they stayed fitted in the butt and thighs.

These are pitch black, so they dress up a more casual look but are still very versatile. I like them best with a white tee and biker boots, but they can be worn with a silk shirt and dressy flats as well.

They've been through three washings and still look brand new. They hold their color and shape beautifully. I do turn them inside out to wash them so that they'll hold onto their color, and I wash them on cold, but I haven't done anything else to try to keep them looking new.
