I’ll admit it, I’m a kitchen gadget aficionado. From Instant Pots to toaster ovens, I have all kinds of gizmos taking residence either on my counter or in my cabinets. Yet, despite all of this advanced cooking wizardry, my favorite tool in the kitchen requires no electricity whatsoever. It is the humble yet incredibly versatile chef’s knife. Namely, the Mac Mighty Mac Professional Hollow Edge Chef’s Knife.
Trust me: You need this knife. And, good news: It’s currently 18 percent off on Amazon — $144, down from $175!
Yes, this blade is a little pricier than others, but it is well worth the investment. I’ve used it nearly every day for close to five years, and I’ve never had to sharpen it even once. I’ve used it to slice everything from tomatoes to pumpkins, and it remains razor-sharp. The blade is thin enough to maneuver through meats and fish. It’s strong enough to cut through the center of a butternut squash. It also does a great job chopping herbs like basil without bruising them, which can sometimes happen if the knife isn’t sharp enough.
Plus, it has these dimples along the side of the knife, which makes it so much easier to slice through foods such as potatoes, apples and zucchini without them “sticking” on the side. Instead, they glide right off, making the task easier and faster.
For someone with small hands like myself, I also really appreciate its lightweight build. It feels super comfortable, with the perfect weight and balance. I can even use this knife for more delicate work like peeling apples and hulling strawberries; jobs that I would normally use a paring knife for. And of course, it’s great at deboning meat.
It looks like others agree with me as well. A person who says they work in a restaurant left a five-star rating on Amazon: “I love this knife! Won’t let anyone else in the kitchen come near it. After using a top of the line Wusthof for the last ten years, I didn’t think I’d ever find a knife I loved more, but this Mac is simply amazing!!!”
“I'm really glad I spent the money on this as opposed to getting a set,” said another review. “Also, you should treat this knife with respect and not misuse its sharpness to open boxes or cut bones. It's way too beautiful for that and I love the ease with which I can slice onions and tomatoes.”
Many reviews also said to be careful, as the knife is so sharp that you might accidentally cut yourself! I do recommend treating this knife with respect and care – wash and dry it after every use to prevent rusting. If you do, I guarantee it’ll last you for many years!
