These fun, colorful mixing bowls might just make you look forward to meal prep. (Walmart)(Walmart)
Before I started writing about kitchen products for a living, I was actually using kitchen products for a living — as a baker, that is. And while I'm no longer whipping up cakes or bread before sunrise, I still love to bake at home. To put it mildly, I've used a lot of mixing bowls in my life, and having tried everything from plastic to glass, I can honestly say metal is where it's at. It's sturdy, easy to clean and — best of all — won't shatter into a zillion pieces if I accidentally knock it off the counter. If you're in the market for a new set, might I suggest these Vesteel Stainless Steel Mixing Bowls with Lids? A set of five is a mere $21 at Walmart.
With the temp outside promising to remain at brrr for the foreseeable future, the best place in the world is a toasty, cozy space where you can curl up. Whether you're planning for long afternoons camped out on the couch or snuggled in bed, this 50-by-60-inch electric blanket will swaddle you in warmth and comfort throughout the winter months (and potentially help you save big on your heating bill). It offers low-, medium- and high-temperature modes and is now more than 60% off.
The word Aid in its name isn't a throwaway — this timeless kitchen standby will do all the heavy lifting for you whether you're cooking or baking a culinary treat. Score $100 off right now at Walmart on the 4.5-quart, tilt-head model. Choose from silver, red, blue and rose.
We love the colorful lids, but you can also snag this set in all-black (or blue).
Available in five colors, this small yet mighty 6-speed hand mixer features a turbo function, giving you some extra power when you're tackling thick doughs and batters or whipping cream. It comes with two chrome beaters, two dough hooks, a stainless steel whisk attachment and a handy accessories case for storing everything.
"This little mixer is amazing!" gushed a reviewer. "It had absolutely no problems mixing up my cookie dough and my mashed potatoes turned out perfectly. Highly recommend!"
At four bucks per bowl, this price is the best we're seeing — even better than similar sets at Amazon! Plus, having a lid for each bowl will save you money on plastic wrap, and the stainless steel should last a long time.
As I mentioned before, metal mixing bowls are my go-tos, and this stainless steel set is shatterproof, as well as dent- and rust-resistant to endure many a baking project. I find that plastic bowls are too lightweight and slide around with even the lightest whisking, while you'd better hope your glass bowl doesn't veer too close to the edge of your workspace. Metal is the perfect go-between: sturdy enough to stay relatively stable and not at all fragile.
What sets the Vesteel set apart from the rest is that each bowl comes with its own lid for easily storing leftovers. I often make cookies that involve letting the dough sit in the fridge overnight before scooping and baking, and these would be perfect for that. Plus, they're ideal for proofing bread dough, which needs to be covered. No more dealing with pesky plastic wrap? Sign me up!
The set includes bowls ranging from .7 quarts to 4.5 quarts to suit a variety of needs, and they're conveniently stackable to save room in your cabinets. Even the BPA-free lids can be nested inside one another. Oh, and not only can they go in the dishwasher, but they're also electric mixer-safe, thanks to their durable construction.
I'm not the only one obsessed with these bowls. More than 1,000 Walmart shoppers give them five stars.
Pros 👍
This reviewer was beyond wowed by the bowls calling them the "best thing since sliced bread," adding "This is my second set. ... They're fantastic for mixing ingredients, making salads — basically anything where you need a bowl. The lids are well-designed, making storage in the cabinet and the fridge for leftovers easy. Perfect for covering and transporting to a party. I use them almost daily."
"I was pleasantly surprised by these bowls," confessed one convert. "Honestly, I was expecting that cheap, almost flimsy metal being used on so many things these days, but these are good and solid without being at all heavy. The lids snuggle in nice and tight and fit down into the bowl about a half inch or so, so when you cover the bowl to put in the fridge, they still stack well. Lids went through a normal dishwasher cycle without warping and that's a very good thing.
"Very nice set of stainless steel bowls," wrote another happy shopper. "The lids fit perfectly and save me from wrestling with plastic wrap and a little money. This set would make a nice gift."
Another fan agreed: "Overall satisfied with the bowl and covers There isn't any rubber under the bowl, but otherwise very useful and good." (Psst: Because they don't have grips on the bottom, they're oven-safe!)
Cons 👎
Some reviewers wished the bowls came in a different assortment of sizes.
"I really like this set of bowls. Love the lids — they fit very tight and don't allow spillage. The lids themselves are very durable feeling. I just wish there had been at least one more larger bowl instead of the two smallest ones," reported a purchaser.
While we're on the subject of baking, this gorgeous hand mixer from Drew Barrymore's Beautiful collection is an affordable $30:
