Eating with more peace of mind is priceless, but I'll never say no to a good deal... (Amazon)(Amazon)
I'm the sort of person who finds preparing meals for friends and loved ones extremely rewarding. What's not so pleasant? Inadvertently serving a side of plastic with my food; or, rather, in my food. Recently, the topic of microplastics has been popping up more and more, with studies showing they have the potential to negatively impact our health when consumed. Among the top culprits? Certain types of cookware, cutting boards and kitchen utensils, which can cause these particles to get into our food. The good news? There are plenty of safer swaps out there, some of which are marked down during Amazon's Big Spring Sale.
As a former professional baker who still spends a lot of time making food, I've personally made the switch from plastic kitchenware to materials that aren't known to contain "forever chemicals," or PFAS. As reported by Yahoo health writer Laura Williams, "Your best bet while shopping is to look for cookware that says 'PFOA-free' or 'PFAS-free.' Nonstick cookware also frequently uses a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) coating which is known to be a source of microplastic exposure when the nonstick surface is scratched or broken. If you're trying to cut down on plastics to reduce your overall intake, opting for 'PTFE-free' cookware or products that don't use this type of nonstick coating can help reduce your risk. Stainless steel, cast iron and ceramic-coated cookware are often considered the best nontoxic cookware options, as these products don't use coatings that contain PFAS or PTFEs."
While I don't make pastries for a living anymore, I do get paid to track down the best deals, and can safely say the ones on this list are worth your time. From Our Place's stainless steel nonstick skillet (down to an all-time low) to a trio of bamboo cutting boards on sale for just $14, these finds will have you cooking with more peace of mind — and for less dough.
Not only am I a fan of Ina Garten's approachable recipes, I also love checking out her gorgeous kitchen and cookware. Some of her go-tos are admittedly out of my price range, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover this super-affordable skillet, a longtime favorite of mine, is also a staple in her kitchen.
This pan can be used on all cooktops, is oven-safe and can even be placed over a grill or open flame. Lodge pieces are so durable, people often pass them down to younger generations. I've had mine for about 10 years, but it works just as well as the day I got it, if not better. Not bad for just 16 bucks!
Another thing I love about this pan? It's made of iron and oil — no PFOAs or PTFEs, which gives me peace of mind about cooking without "forever chemicals." No wonder it's one of 12 pieces of cookware Garten links to on her website.

Like all of Our Place's cookware, this nonstick pan is made without "forever chemicals" for peace of mind. This skillet, however, also boasts an aluminum core for excellent heat conductivity, as well as a strong titanium interior. The handle doubles as a resting spot for an included wooden spatula, and at just 3.4 pounds, it's quite light compared with other metal cookware.
Senior Health Editor Laura Williams awarded this line the title of "best stainless steel" in her roundup of the best nontoxic cookware, saying, "Stainless steel is generally considered one of the safest and most durable options when selecting nontoxic cookware, and we especially appreciate that this set is NSF-certified for safety and durability. It also comes with a lifetime warranty, so you know your investment is well covered. ... We also like that the cookware (pots, pans and lids) are oven-safe up to 500° F and are dishwasher-safe too."
Included in this 8-piece set are an 8-inch fry pan, a 10-inch fry pan, a 2-quart sauce pan with lid, a 3-quart sauce pan with lid and a 5-quart Dutch oven with lid. This deal saves you nearly 55%, its best markdown since 2023.
If you saw the June 2024 study that found that plastic kitchen items, including cutting boards, could increase your exposure to microplastics, you may be on the hunt for more nontoxic kitchen items. Start with this set of bestselling bamboo cutting boards. They're easy to clean, reversible and come in three sizes.
"These little cutting boards are exactly what my kitchen needed," said a foodie fan. "I threw away all my plastic cutting boards, and these feel nice and smooth. Note that you cannot put them in the dishwasher, and that is why other reviews show them falling apart. My favorite is the smallest board for quickly cutting fruits for snacking."
Ready to trade your scuffed-up plastic utensils for something a bit more sturdy? This attractive, 100% teak eight-piece set is safe to use on all types of cookware and comes with just about every spoon and spatula you'd ever need. Plus, it includes a holder to keep everything neatly contained on the counter, along with a spoon rest and a few hooks, should you decide to hang up certain pieces.
It's only dipped this low once all year, and that was during Prime Day, so at over 45% off, this is a deal worth grabbing while you can.
A sturdy aluminum half sheet tray is one of my most-reached-for kitchen items for all things sweet and savory, and Nordic Ware is my go-to brand. Its most obvious use is probably baking cookies, but I've also used mine to make cakes (you can cut out layers or make a large sheet cake), homemade Pop Tarts, galettes and roasted vegetables. Oh, and if I'm baking something runny in a pie or cake pan, I always stick one of these babies underneath to catch any drippings — easier to clean the tray than the bottom of my oven! Since it doesn't have any nonstick coating, I don't have to worry about chemicals; I just line it with unbleached parchment paper to keep food from sticking.
This duo has ridges to help prevent sticking while improving airflow to encourage crisping — and it's down to its best price since last summer.
Plastic takeout containers sure are convenient when it comes to storing leftovers, but they can cause small particles to make their way into your food — especially if you heat them up. These glass vessels, on the other hand, don't even come with plastic lids, like most sets do; instead, the lids are made from bamboo (note that they do have airtight silicone seals to keep food fresh). My price trackers tell me this set hasn't dipped lower in years.
Ina named this 10-piece set of mixing bowls as one of her go-to pieces of equipment. The best thing about these is that they nest, making storage a breeze.
