Just look at this sleek culinary canvas — it's so pretty, you almost won't want to cook in it. (Lisa Schweitzer/Yahoo)(Lisa Schweitzer/Yahoo)
Calling all home cooks: As Yahoo's senior deals writer specializing in all things food-related, I've been on the hunt for the best Labor Day kitchen sales — and folks, this might be the best of the bunch. The highly rated Made In Stainless Steel Frying Pan, which Yahoo's own Senior Home Writer Lisa Schweitzer named "best stainless steel pan overall" after putting many to the test, is on rare markdown during Amazon's Labor Day sale. And when I say "rare," I'm not referring to the doneness of the steaks you'll be cooking in this thing. What I mean is, this deal drops the price to the best I've seen all year — and discounts on this brand are infrequent as it is. If your scuffed-up skillet is ready for an upgrade, you won't do better than this — I'm about to grab one myself!
According to my price trackers, this pan is on sale for its best price since 2022 when you apply the on-page coupon — that's less than it is over at Made In itself, where it's marked down to $100 before shipping. This even beats its Prime Day price of $103, so if you're considering it, you'll want to add it to your cart ASAP.
"There wasn't much not to like about the Made In Stainless Steel Pan!" says Schweitzer, an alum of the French Culinary Institute. "At 2.25 pounds, it maneuvered well from the range to the oven and felt balanced while I seared chicken thighs, sautéed onions and deglazed the pan. I also really enjoyed the handle (which isn't something I had thought much about prior to this round of testing) because it stayed cool on the stove."
She adds, "This pan is made from 5-ply clad stainless steel, and if you're wondering what that means, that's totally fair. Most stainless steel pans are constructed of layers of metal bonded together; 'clad' refers to the process of layering the metals, so 5-ply means five layers. Because stainless steel is not the best conductor of heat on its own, it's usually layered with aluminum (as it is with this pan) or copper for improved heat distribution/retention and durability. This helps the pan produce a deep golden-brown sear on proteins like chicken or steak and ensures it will perform at high temperatures. All of this translates to an exceptional skillet that you will be able to rely on for years."
If you had any doubts surrounding its durability, consider the fact that it's "oven-safe up to 800°F, which is a very high temperature that a home oven can't even reach, but it means that the pan holds up under the broiler," as Schweitzer explains. One thing to note? "While the brand says the pan is dishwasher-safe, it recommends you hand-wash and dry it, and so do I," she says. "You may need to use some elbow grease when scrubbing burned bits or browned oil or butter, but this pan will come clean. If you want some pointers, check out Made In's video on cleaning stainless steel cookware."
Schweitzer admits that it's pricier than many stainless steel pans on the market, but that makes scoring it on sale even more satisfying. "What I can say is that this 5-ply clad pan is essentially restaurant-quality in terms of heat retention, durability and performance, and I think it's worth it."
Schweitzer's in good company — more than 1,400 Amazon customers are "flipping" over their Made In cookware as well.
"You'll feel like a professional chef at home!" exclaimed an excited shopper. "It has to be my favorite gift I have gotten myself. I have made many mistakes in the past, buying cheap stainless steel pans that I burned through, and for the longest time, I thought I was incapable of learning how to cook on one. Nope. I just didn't have a Made In pan. It heats evenly. It cleans easily."
"Restaurant quality, plain and simple," raved another aspiring chef. "You'll wonder why you ever messed around with cheap $30 pans. Incredible heat transfer."
"I absolutely love everything about this pan," said a third skillet swooner. "The brushed finish is the bomb ... I love the handle too. ... I even went and bought more of their cookware, even though I didn't need it, because it makes me want to cook!"
"Well designed, easy to clean," said a generally happy home cook. "Well constructed; [the] handle does not get hot at all and is easy to hold." Their one note? "The height of the rim could be maybe a few centimeters higher, but that’s [my] preference. Works very well with induction. I have other stainless steel tools, but this one heats up the quickest."
"You may see some sticking the first few times," heeded a final fan, "but like a good cast-iron pan, this one gets better over time. I wipe mine with a small amount of oil ... after every wash and dry. I now cook eggs in it with no problems of sticking!"
