Summer doesn't have to be a schvitzy, sun-baked ordeal. Just wet one of these and chill out. (Amazon)(Photo: Amazon)
Heat waves have been rippling throughout the country for weeks, and we're not even halfway through summer yet. When the temperature rises above 90°F, we reach for anything and everything to keep ourselves cool. So we took our mission to Amazon and found a quick fix that shoppers say actually helps and doesn't break the bank: the Ergodyne Chill-Its Cooling Towel. Right now, you can get one on sale, starting at just $5.
Grab it before this deal is toast — the price on this popular model usually won't go much lower.
This No. 1 bestseller is over 60% off — one of its lowest prices ever — and comes with just about every type of blade a home cook could need. Henckels has been crafting quality knives for over a century, so you can rest assured it knows what it's doing.
"Finally, sharp (and safe) knives," wrote a happy home cook. "I have been used to ordinary knives until my brother, who is a chef, convinced me to upgrade to Henckels. I must admit, I was a bit nervous at first, worrying about cutting myself, but the grip on these knives keeps my hands from slipping. They are extremely sharp and do a great job in the kitchen."
If you're thinking this handheld gadget closely resembles an electric toothbrush, that's essentially what it is — only instead of putting the Rubbermaid Reveal Power Scrubber in your mouth, you'll use it to blast away dirt and grime from every crevice in your bathroom (or any small area in your home needing a good cleansing, for that matter). It does practically all of the heavy lifting for you via its 6 volts of power and oscillating head, which scrubs a whopping 60 times per second. According to the brand, it also works twice as fast as a standard scrub brush. A time and energy saver? We love to see it.
"I never write reviews — but I had to write about this amazing little tool," gushed a five-star reviewer. "I just bought a new house and wasn't going to replace kitchen and bathroom floors. I spent an hour or so with this little tool and some grout cleaner, and my old kitchen floors look alive again. I'm shocked. And very, very happy."
Resolving to make getting a good night's sleep a priority this year? You'll want some comfy pillows to rest your head on, and this cloud-like pair is priced right at nearly 70% off! Not only that, these pillows were designed to strike just the right balance between soft and supportive, and they're made from a moisture-wicking material to help banish night sweats.
"These pillows are exactly what I've been looking for!" shared a relieved sleeper. "I slept on one last night, and for the first time in a very long time, I woke up with no neck pain! I have three bulging disks in my neck, so it's been hard to find just the right pillow. It's firm but not too firm, holds its shape and adjusts when you reposition yourself; it automatically fluffs up to accept your new position. Wonderful. I can't say enough good things about this pillow!"
Gardening season is just around the corner, and these No. 1 bestselling pruning shears were designed to slice through stems like nobody's business. Made of durable stainless steel, the blades have a low-friction coating and a self-cleaning sap groove to help prevent sticking, and the nonslip handles offer a secure grip.

Any professional or home baker knows that KitchenAid is the gold standard when it comes to stand mixers. They also know how expensive these bad boys can be. But this classic tilt-head model is currently down to a reasonable $240 at Amazon, which is just about the cheapest we've ever seen it. If you'd like to give your arms a break the next time you're whipping up a batch of cookie dough, this workhorse will do all the heavy lifting — er, mixing — for you. And since it's built to last, you won't have to splurge on a replacement any time soon.
Pressure cookers not only let you set it and forget it, but they also help you beat the heat — and this No. 1 bestseller is down to its lowest price of the year. Its 6-quart capacity holds food for up to six people, and you can use it for everything from steaming veggies and preparing rice to making your own yogurt. Plus, it works up to 70% faster than other cooking methods, meaning dinner will be on the table in a snap.
Thank you, Jamba Juice and Smoothie King, but your services are no longer needed.
The cooling power of the Chill-Its cooling towel can last for up to four hours on a single soak. Just re-wet it to reactivate the chilly goodness.
Beat the heat with this No. 1 bestselling handheld fan, which also has a built-in USB power bank, a flashlight and adorable little "ears". It's over 40% off!
This reviewer called it a "summer essential," adding, "It fits perfectly in my purse. Comes in handy in the Louisiana heat. Battery life lasted for about two weeks for me. Also, the flashlight is very bright and the perfect addition."
The on-sale price of $5 (depending on color) is on par with the lowest price we've ever seen. We don't know how much longer this will last, though, so snag it ASAP to stay cool for the rest of the summer.
This year the heat hit "unusually early" as the New York Times reported, and it's not going anywhere soon. We've found several items to help keep you cool, but the Ergodyne Chill-Its Cooling Towel is designed to provide cool relief quick. It's made from Polyvinyl Alcohol, or PVA, a nontoxic, biodegradable polymer that happens to be super-absorbent. It a common material for cosmetic sponges because it can be used over and over again. When the towel is completely dry, it's stiff. To activate it, just run it under cold water.
Once the cloth is saturated, it feels cooler than the ambient temperature and can stay cool for up to four hours. At that point, you can re-wet it with just a little bit of water and its cooling powers will be restored.
If there’s one thing we can count on this summer, it’s torrid temps. Amazon shoppers can’t say enough about how well these Chill-Its work when the heat is unbearable and dangerous.
Pros 👍
"This brand is like some wizardry," one surprised shopper wrote. "It is shocking how chilly it gets and cools your body on the hottest days."
The Chill even has quasi-medical uses! "I used these to help when I had an allergic reaction and my legs broke out in hives," the shopper explained. "Awesome products. Definitely worth their weight in gold!"
It's even hot-flash-approved! “I went through chemo for cancer and have a horrible time with hot flashes, and these are great for them!" wrote an enthusiastic shopper. "I keep one at the office and one at home.”
"Works extremely well. We used these during the 100-plus degree weather and we were able to be fairly comfortable since our A/C was out," another reliever reviewer said. "I have purchased about a half dozen of these, so we have them for friends if we need them."
One amazed customer even said it saved a fellow tourist from overheating. "While on a cruise, we went on a scavenger hunt on the island of Aruba," they wrote. "It was a stifling 98 degrees and 95% humidity. One of the women in our group started to get overheated to the point of nausea and almost passing out. I had taken six of these with me, on ice, in a small rolling cooler. I got one out and placed it around her neck. She literally cried from the relief she felt from this amazing cloth!!"
Cons 👎
While it's generally a shopper-favorite, one reviewer mentioned one flaw that was hard to ignore. "After about 10+ uses, the color started to bleed out," the shopper wrote. "It went from being an orange color to a discolored pink."
Another shopper added that it just "needs to be a little longer" for them to give it a perfect rating.
Another cool way to keep from overheating is this handy little fan.
