There's only one Oprah, but there are 74 fab styles of her fave crossbody bag. (Photo: Getty; Amazon)(Getty, Amazon (4))
When the ultimate tastemaker — one Ms. Oprah Winfrey — calls something her fave, I always hope to try it out. Especially when it's super-cute, affordable, problem-solving, stylish and minimal. Such was the case with the perfectly petite Harper Crossbody by K. Carroll Accessories. And now that I've tried it, I'm a bit smitten! I've taken the Harper out dancing, shopping, on long walks in the park, and soon I'll be whisking her away to Paris, where ma chéri has vowed to protect my credit cards, passport and phone. S w o o n. If you need a Harper in your life, now's your big chance, because Yahoo readers can get an exclusive 25% discount these bags with our special code: YahooHarper. That makes it just $20 (down from $26).
I mean, 74 colors and patterns. Odds are you'll find what your are looking for and then some.
There's more to this barely-there bag than you might expect at first glance, which is why the timeless Harper (no relation to Harpo) landed on Oprah's Favorite Things list a few years back. The media maven said: "Four RFID-protected card slots, two separate inside compartments, and a detachable crossbody strap, all in one cute little vegan leather bag, can mean only one thing: Gayle King, my purse-loving BFF, bought these for everybody she knows!"
(Psst, Oprah: There's actually a third compartment hidden inside the flap!)
When it comes to impressing Oprah, the woman-owned, woman-operated K. Carroll Accessories has it in the bag, so to speak. The company's chic, usability-minded designs have earned a coveted place on her Favorites list several times over the years, including the Kelsey Crossbody (a roomier crossbody) and the Taylor Tote (a dynamic carryall).
But back to the Harper. Oprah and I and 1,400+ five-star fans at Amazon agree it's The One for those times when you just want the barest minimum on your person. At the airport, it has kept my i.d., phone and credit cards super-accessible yet safe. At concerts and dance parties — when all I need is some lipstick, car keys and the freedom to get down — it's light as can be. And on restaurant outings, it kindly stows away my pesky reading glasses until I need them.
The Harper is certainly chic enough for weddings and my upcoming trip to the City of Lights (bragging, not bragging) yet simple enough for walks with the dog when I need my hands free.
If you like a fanny pack on occasion, simply unhook the strap and put the belt loop on the back to work. There's even a small carabiner, if needed. (Confession: When walking the dog, I put a whole roll of "Before" dog waste bags inside the empty belt loop and use the carabiner for "After" bags. So convenient!)
Note: The strap itself is quite long — the top of the purse hangs below my hip — but you can knot it to your desired length. It still looks great.
I wasn't sure about the fringe at first and considered removing it, but I quite like it in person. Plus my fashion-forward 9-going-on-19-year-old forbade me from removing it: "Fringe is cool, Mom."
The style selection is impressive. There are a whopping 74 colors and patterns for this vegan find. Thank goodness this is such a deal, because you will want several. Go wild.
Solids include black, neutrals (like camel), brights (we see you, fuchsia!) and shimmers from silver to green. Among the prints: ginghams, florals, colorblocks, animals and much more. Truly, there's something for everyone. My daughter says if you are cool, you will choose the watercolor print — and she's not wrong.
At only 4.5" x 7.25" x 0.5", you'll have to be selective about what exactly you put in this little bag. But if you're like me, you'll be too busy being free to miss all that extra stuff. OK, OK — sometimes you do need stuff ... In that case, use that carabiner to clip it to your Taylor tote and go.)
