I've been on the hunt for the perfect sandals. My summer schedule is packed with destination weddings, birthday parties, family visits, concerts and weekends exploring locally in NYC — and I need a shoe that can keep up. I'm looking for something with a small heel that works with maxi dresses and wide-leg pants, that can be dressed up or down, and that comes in a neutral shade to match just about everything I own. Is that too much to ask?
During this grand search, I kept running into one recurring style: toe ring sandals. You know, the kind with a loop around the big toe. So I had to wonder: are these currently in style? Well, Jennifer Lawrence just gave me my answer. The Oscar-winning actress and street-style maven was recently spotted in Manhattan wearing a pair herself just this month.
OK, so yes, toe ring sandals are on the rise to become summer 2025's "it" shoe trend. You can find them on celebs, and they're made by popular brands like Anthropologie, J.Crew, Madewell, Tory Burch, Reformation, Steve Madden, Old Navy, Target and more. Seriously, they're everywhere. The search term "toe ring sandals" has skyrocketed on Google over the last three months and is currently at peak popularity.
The rise in these chic sandals isn't all that surprising. The shoe style was seen on many Spring 2025 fashion runways, and people started wearing them as early as 2023, including Victoria Beckham and Kylie Jenner. They're a stylish, albeit somewhat quirky, way to add a little extra flair to any outfit. If you want to try summer's trendiest shoe, I've rounded up a few selections from my wishlist for you to check out.
My own shoe shopping quest lead me to purchase these chic slides in Toffee brown, although I'm tempted to purchase them in black as well. I'll wear them with dresses, jeans, jean shorts, linen pants and more this summer. And I'll confidently toss them in my suitcase, knowing I can wear them with any outfit on vacation.
These sandals have a small 1.25-inch heel paired with a cushy memory foam footbed that I can confirm is pretty comfortable. Of course, they also have a funky gold accent on the toe. They're available in brown, tan, black and white.
Seychelles is one of my favorite shoe brands for style and comfort. This pair (which is over 40% off at Nordstrom Rack) evokes a similarly sporty vibe to Jennifer Lawrence's St. Agni toe ring sandals. They're strappy, but have a chunky sole and a cushioned footbed. If you have enough black sandals, they come in white, natural and tan.
These strappy sandals have become a bestseller for Old Navy (and they look very similar to a Steve Madden pair that costs nearly three times more). They're flat, but they have a cushioned footbed, and because they have a strap that buckles around your foot, they make a good pick for all-day wear. I'd imagine wearing these with a pair of jean shorts for a shopping trip through the local market on vacation.
Leave it to Madewell to take a trend and make it just a little bit cooler. This style has an edgy, oversized chrome accent and a teeny tiny heel — and they come in a very on-trend shade of butter yellow. They have a cushioned footbed and are made from real leather, which reviewers call "super soft and supple."
This simple sandal is a sleek alternative to your standard flip-flops. For $20, you can get them in black or creamy white — the cognac brown color has already sold out. Yes, these are pretty popular at Target. It's also worth noting that they look very similar to Reformation's toe ring sandals that cost nearly $150.
J.Crew is right on trend with these toe ring sandals, which fit right in step with the brand's "quiet luxury" vibe. Styled sans-bangle, this minimalist version comes in white gold (pictured here), tan or brown. Shoppers suggest sizing up a half size, but say that the footbed is cushioned, like a lot of others on this list.
Bonus points: The retailer also makes a version of these sandals with a two-inch heel if that's more your style.
While these sandals don't have the obvious toe ring strap, they do fall into the toe ring sandal category, and they're pretty popular. The straps cross over the big toe and buckle around the ankle for support. Many Nordstrom Rack reviewers applauded the soft material and footbed for comfort. "Extremely comfortable with a very thick sole and soft leather that does not rub, even from the first use," said one. These come in shades of black, silver, ivory, cognac and tan.
Here's another reportedly comfy style from Franco Sarto, but they slip on. No need to bend over to buckle them — just slide them on and go. They have a trendy square toe, a flexible sole and they're made with a durable faux leather that comes in three colors.
If you’re after an elongating style, this pair from Anthropologie is a strong pick. They feature a chunky three-inch heel, a wide strap across the foot, and a toe-loop strap with a subtle metal accent. Available in blue, taupe, tan and black, the sky blue shade adds a retro touch while still feeling totally current.
