"Cellulite and skin tightening creams work in various ways," says board-certified dermatologist Dr. Dara Spearman. "Many of these creams are effective for moisturizing, boosting collagen production, exfoliating, tightening the skin, improving circulation and they can even increase skin elasticity."

Caffeine: This is an old standby in cellulite treatments and was the star of "body firming" scrubs of the '90s and '00s. "Caffeine helps temporarily tighten and smooth the skin," says Spizuoco. "[It can also] help reduce fluid buildup."
Peptides: Peptides — currently the hottest ingredient in skin care — "help strengthen the skin and improve elasticity," explains Spearman.
Retinol: When it comes to firming the skin, every expert I spoke with agreed that retinol is one of the most powerful ingredients you can use. It works by speeding up cell turnover, which not only smooths skin but also stimulates collagen production, keeping the skin tighter looking over time.
Hyaluronic acid: "This hydrates and plumps the skin for a smoother look," says Spizuoco. Hydration is one of the easiest ways to make dimpled skin look more supple and hyaluronic acid is one of the best ingredients for the job.
Centella asiatica (gotu kola): "This is a plant extract known for its skin-repairing properties," says Camp.
Niacin: "Niacin — which is also known as vitamin B3 — is commonly used to improve blood flow and circulation," says Spearman.
For best results, Camp recommends applying cellulite creams to clean, dry skin, "ideally after a shower when your skin is more receptive." He instructs clients to massage the product in using firm, circular motions, which will boost circulation and help with absorption. Camp also recommends using a body brush or massage tool to enhance the effects.
Lastly, "Consistency is key," Camp explains, "so aim for daily use."
Spizuoco likes the combination of cocoa butter and retinol in this lightweight, affordable option, which targets not only cellulite but also dark spots and crepey texture.
