Whether for working out, running errands or lounging, leggings are an absolute wardrobe essential. Choose the right comfy, stretchy pair, and you'll be able to move around with ease getting in and out of your car or curling up on the couch. When it comes to leggings, lots of people immediately think Lululemon, and with good reason. The brand's Align leggings are pretty great. But as a leggings collector, I have to say that Athleta doesn't get nearly enough praise or attention. Their leggings are just as amazing (if not better in some cases), which is probably why Grammy-winning artist Alicia Keys teamed up with the brand on these Keys Transcend Tights.
Size-inclusive? Check. These come in XXS-3X in regular length, and they're also available in XS-XL in tall and XXS-L in petite.
Keys kicked off her partnership with Athleta in 2022. The collaboration is about more than producing stylish, size-inclusive athleisure pieces — it also aims to empower women by creating community and increasing access to well-being resources. Keys not only partners with the brand on design; she's also a mentor and adviser to Athleta's Power of She Fund grant program. "I was drawn to Athleta because we both want to encourage women to discover, accept and own their power," Keys said.
Keys has co-designed more than five collections with Athleta. The Transcend Leggings are part of the newest launch, and they're quickly becoming a shopper fave. (More than 200 people have added them to their online shopping cart in the past day, Athleta says — so it's safe to say they're popular.)
Some people may think all leggings are basically the same, but true collectors and connoisseurs know better. The best pairs are stretchy and supportive without being sheer, while those that fall flat are loose in in the wrong areas and made from fabric that can't stand up to regular wear and washing. Transcend Leggings fall into the first category: They're made from a soft lycra that's lightweight but still holds you in, and it isn't see-through. Choose from classic black and a gorgeous deep red hue in sizes XXS-3X.
Because Keys's Transcend tights are relatively new to Athleta, they have limited reviews. That said, almost all of them are five stars and positive, with one shopper calling them "buttery soft [and] flattering."
"I love Transcend anyway, but [Alicia Keys's style] is amazing," one happy shopper raved. "I love the fabric as always. Feels like wearing nothing and no muffin-top. The difference is the seaming in the front — very flattering. I have these in both colors. Please make more!"
"Best tights I've ever owned," another shopper said. They added, "I have a problem finding tights that are truly comfy … these are perfect! Soft, secure, flattering (I'm not small, not big, little belly). I love them!" The same shopper reported that they "roll a tiny bit" but added "it's a non-issue!"
