One debate that is happening on TikTok is what the best plain white T-shirt is.
Recently, some people have made the case for the shirt from the Emmy-nominated show The Bear, which is made by Merz b. Schwanen and costs $125.
On top of that, the Uniqlo Airism Oversized tee, priced at $19.90, has also been a contender for one of the best white T-shirts on the market. However, a TikToker name Zaguá (@zagua99), who has made several videos trying to find the best blank tee, had some thoughts about the Airism Oversized tee in one of his most recent posts.
One of his complaints was that after a few wears, the neckline failed to hold its shape well.
“Neckline is perfect when you just buy it,” he said. “But wash it a couple times, and it’s gonna be more flimsy than [inserted TV static].”
While Zagua and other TikTokers search for the perfect white tee, there are things they can do to address his neckline complaint — regardless of the T-shirt.
David Vu (@davidvooo) posted a video from the NEWLIFE (@newlife.clo) clothing page showing how to fix necklines that are worn out.
The first thing Vu says to do is to get a small pot and boil water in it. After that, tie the shirt in a rubber band just under the neckline. Once those two steps are done, simply place the tied-up area into the boiling water and let it sit for about a minute. Vu then says to let the shirt air dry, which will leave the neckline much tighter than it was before.
Boiling water can help shrink necklines back to their proper shape, and it can also assist in stretching out small sweaters.
The process is similar, however, to make garments longer. Add hair conditioner to the boiling water and stretch the piece yourself. Once it dries, the item should be longer.
This creator did note that he believes it only works with cotton, as the material is more malleable than denim or polyester.
As TikTokers continue to figure out which T-shirts are the best for their everyday needs, this hack can help the shirts maintain their original look.
