If I'm working out, there's a good chance I'm wearing at least one piece from Alo. On the left, I'm wearing the Airlift Intrigue Bra and High-Waist Airlift Leggings, while holding the Accolade Pullover. On the right, I'm wearing the Wild Thing Bra, Airlift Intrigue Bra High-Waist Airlift Legging and the Half-Crew Throwback Socks. (Julia Webb/Yahoo)(Julia Webb/Yahoo)
I live a pretty active lifestyle. Whether I'm going to my local sports club, trying a new yoga studio or hitting a pilates class with friends, I try to fill my calendar with regular weekday workouts. But let's be honest: some days, just getting out the door feels like a workout in itself. And when my gear rides up, rolls down, chafes or turns into a sweaty mess, it's even harder to muster motivation. That's why I was so relieved to find activewear that actually works and looks great. Once I tried these pieces from Alo, I never looked back.
Alo offers high-quality activewear for a range of activities (think running, court sports and yoga) and I've been wearing the brand's designs for years. After a ton of wear and tear, my Alo pieces still look great and hold up when I'm hard on them (full disclosure — I put all my activewear through the washer and dryer). So if your gym attire could use a refresh or if you, like me, could use a little style motivation to get moving, you're in luck. Alo's epic Aloversary sale is on now and you can save 30% or more on everything sitewide, from clothes and shoes to wellness products. This sale is pretty epic, so if you could use a little help sorting through the hundreds of items that are marked down, I've rounded up the six I reach for weekly.
This medium-support sports bra is one of my go-to styles for pretty much any workout. I love that it has a longer band under the bust, which makes it a sort of bra/crop top hybrid. I also find the ruching super flattering, and I love that the back is totally flat without any adjustable straps to poke into me when doing ab exercises or floor work.
These leggings are one of Alo's best sellers (and my No. 1 favorite) for good reason. They're made from the brand's signature Airlift fabric, which provides firm compression and a flattering, sculpting fit, while the wide waistband delivers no-slip support. Plus, the slight sheen looks great even under harsh gym lighting. You can snag this 7/8 style or the full-length cut in 15 colors, but you can never go wrong with black.
To me, this pullover is the perfect gym sweatshirt. It's oversized, super soft and washes well without shrinking (the brand recommends washing it on cold and tumble drying on gentle). I find myself reaching for this sweatshirt all year long when heading to work out so I can wear it in chilly studios until I'm warmed up. It's definitely on the boxy side, so if you like a more fitted look, you may want to grab one size smaller than you usually would. Love a set? The matching sweatpants are on sale, too.
While I wear the Wild Thing Bra to pilates and yoga, I wear the Airlift Intrigue Bra to HITT and BodyPump classes. This high compression sports bra has a snug, sculpting fit and features a subtle scoop-neck cut. While the front of the style may look basic, the back is super cute, thanks to adjustable crisscrossed straps and a sneaky cutout. And like the Airlift leggings, this sports bra also has that pretty sheen.
The Gather Long Sleeve is another one of my hero layering pieces. I'll wear this top to yoga and pilates until I start to sweat, but it's ridiculously soft, so I also tend to wear it when traveling, too. The ribbed material and ruched sides make it feel more special than a typical long-sleeved tee, so even though I usually wear it with leggings or sweatpants, I feel a bit more put together. I already own it in black, so I'm adding this white one to my cart immediately.
Socks may seem like an odd thing to include in a list of favorites, but they are seriously that good — I had to include them. These half-crew socks are thick and soft and provide some much-appreciated cushion in my beat-up sneakers. Available in more than 10 colors, I love the sporty and slightly retro feel they add to my gym outfits and that you can wear them pulled up or scrunched down. Pro tip: These are also my favorite for wearing with boots in the fall and winter, so I'm definitely buying a few pairs.
